About the PPC Business & Resource Directory
The Prairie Pride Coalition Business & Resource Directory is a community-driven resource designed to connect LGBTQ+ individuals and families with safe, welcoming, and dedicated affirming businesses, spiritual communities, and healthcare providers.
The directory was first introduced in 2017 as a roadmap of safe businesses and supportive professionals in Bloomington-Normal. It has continued to be a necessary resource for LGBTQ+ people in the area.
To ensure the safety and integrity of this resource for our community, all directory members complete a brief questionnaire and sign the Prairie Pride Pledge.
The Prairie Pride Pledge
“As a listed member of the Prairie Pride Coalition Directory, we pledge to provide a safe, welcoming, and unequivocally affirming environment for all LGBTQ+ individuals.
We commit to treating every person with dignity and respect, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
We actively oppose discrimination and strive to foster inclusive practices within our organization, physical spaces, and services.
By joining this directory, we stand as a proud partner and safe haven for the LGBTQ+ community.”
What the Commitment Means
Taking the pledge is an active way that leaders and businesses uphold the following:
- Ensuring staff is trained, language is inclusive, and the environment actively welcomes LGBTQ+ folks.
- Zero tolerance for bias or harassment from employees and patrons. Addressing issues immediately and constructively.
- Proudly displaying PPC partnership so community members know they are safe with that business.
- An understanding that community members will be able to provide feedback to the PPC Directory Committee
